FODJ Winter Fair 9th Dec Friday 3.30pm-5.30pm. Come along and join the fun!

WHEN: Friday 9th Dec 3.30pm – 5.30pm
WHERE: The school canteen
WHAT: VOLUNTEER HERE

xmas-fair-2016Santa does his best, but he’s stressed. He’s got a few backroom staff, a couple of IT geeks, nine smelly reindeer, plus a factory full of overworked elves, but they’re tiny and on zero hours contracts.

Santa needs our help with Mr Franceschi’s Christmas list, because he’s asking for a sack of iPads. That’s what Downs Juniors needs (to replace some that are running down) and not just so the kids can watch Dan TDM or play Minecraft like they do at home. No, the school needs them so the kids can learn history and geography and literature and respect for their elders and not to bully their parents and… Loads!

So how can you help? I’m glad you asked. You can volunteer to help at the Winter Fair on December 9th after school. We need you to bake, donate a raffle prize, run a stall, help in the kitchens – something! Anything! Just help by filling in the lovely VOLUNTEER FORM

And don’t think you get out of it if you don’t believe in Santa or Jesus, because everyone believes in Winter (if not then try going out in shorts). So if Hanukkah is your thing, or Kwanzaa or Diwali or Pagan Yule or Liz at 3pm then volunteer, and show the world that Winterval is about generosity of spirit. Ho Ho Hope you sign up.

PS: Non uniform day in return for chocolate donations for the EPIC chocolate-lucky-dip-TOMBOLA confirmed as Weds 7 December.

FODJ Halloween discos MINDCRAFT ZOMBIES Friday 14th Oct – info for parents and kids…

Correction: drop off, pick up, volunteering is now all through the TOP GATE at the TOP PLAYGROUND.

FODJ would like to let the kids and parents know about arrangements for the Halloween Discos: This year it’s in the canteen and the Orange Room (Mr. Myers’ room near the loos) and a little photo booth in the tiny marquee awning alongside the canteen.

The children will all be safe and there will be no spaces for crazy running around, just crazy dancing!

There will be grown ups in high vis to help with name labels on and 5 teachers each session. And at any time any child can leave the disco in the canteen and go and chill in the film room where Mr Myers teaches.

There’s going to be popcorn, lots of nibbles, cakes, tattoos, films and photos, lots of minecraft stuff dangling from the ceiling and plenty of silly dancing and fun.

Volunteers for the Year 3/4 disco are requested to come at 5pm to the TOP GATE at the TOP PLAYGROUND.

Volunteers for the Year 5/6 disco are requested to come at 6.30pm to the TOP GATE at the TOP PLAYGROUND.

ShelterTitleLogo

The Air Raid Shelters under the DJS playground lay undiscovered for 35 years until the 1980’s and since then have vary rarely been opened up to the local community. FODJ and Mr Button decided to change all that by revitalising the shelters for the local community and to aid children’s learning.

The Take Shelter events celebrate the amazing history of DJS during the war years.Whilst the tours are taking place underground we will be hosting 1940s themed stalls and activities in the playground which will include a live music act each Saturday . To make the events a success we need parents to support us by volunteering to help with the following stalls and activities:

We’ve invited you to fill out the form Take Shelter at Downs Junior School general volunteer form: Please be patient, they can take a little while to load from Google HQ
